Rooted in Excellence
Our story began when Robert Spratlin, an experienced electrical contractor who had previously worked for another well-regarded commercial electrical contracting company, decided to venture out on his own.
While still working for that company, Robert had already begun specializing in medical electrical contracting, and he recognized the potential to build something special. Robert set out to build a company that would prioritize quality workmanship and exceptional customer service in the medical electrical field and beyond. Spratlin Electric Contracting was born.
Growth and Leadership Evolution
When Robert embarked on this journey, he didn’t go alone. He brought his trusted colleague, Gene Gibbs, along with him. Gene’s unwavering dedication to the trade and his willingness to learn and grow led him to evolve from Electrical Helper to Electrician to Lead Foreman and eventually to Project Manager and company Vice President.
His remarkable journey culminated with him becoming the proud owner of Spratlin Electric Contracting upon Robert’s retirement. Gene’s rise through the ranks is a testament to our company’s ethos of recognizing and nurturing talent from within.

Columbia Electrical Council
The CEC provides the classroom content for SCDEW trade education. Our employees who are part of this program complete their field work hours with us and their classroom learning through the CEC.
SC Department of Employment and Workforce
This SCDEW initiative provides furthering trade education at the workplace and also supports employees in the field. This program provides adult education for Electricians Levels 1-4, who complete their field work hours through Spratlin Electric Contracting.
Apprenticeship Carolina
This program bridges the gap between trade school work study programs and higher-level field positions and is ideal for our employees who are ready to expand their professional knowledge. Apprenticeship Carolina supports our apprentices with transferable accreditation.

Gene Gibbs
Company Owner
Gene started at Spratlin in the early 1990s as a helper. After a successful ownership transition, Gene became President and Owner of the company in 2019.
In his free time, Gene enjoys bass fishing, attending classic rock concerts, and working with his hands.

Amber Gibbs
Associate Director of Operations
Amber joined Spratlin in 2018 as a temporary helper. She worked her way up from administrative assistant to APM and then to her current role as Associate Director of Operations.
When she’s not managing operations at Spratlin, Amber can be found hiking, climbing, or honing her photography skills.

Warehouse Manager
John started with Spratlin in 2019 as Warehouse Assistant, and has since earned his role as Warehouse Manager.
John enjoys spending time with his family, cooking for loved ones, and playing the guitar.

Safety Coordinator/QC
John came to Spratlin first as an instructor through the Columbia Electric Council. He joined the Spratlin family as a permanent team member for Safety and Quality Control in 2023.
In his spare time, John enjoys spending time outdoors, barbecues, and listening to live music.

Accountant/Bookkeeper
Susannah joined the Spratlin family in 2021 as Accounts Receivable Specialist. She has since earned a promotion to Head of Accounting.
When she’s not crunching numbers, Susannah enjoys traveling, gardening, and painting.

Teresa Collingwood
Accounts Payable Specialist
When Teresa started her tenure with Spratlin in 2007, she was one of only two office workers on our team. Since then she has worked her way from administrative assistant to Accounts Payable Specialist.
Teresa loves nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loves to travel and garden in her free time.

Project Manager
Jason comes to Spratlin from a glowing electrical management career in Tampa, Florida. He started with Spratlin in 2024 and serves as a Project Manager.
